SKIN CANCER AND MELANOMA
Description
Basal Cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinomas are the most common skin cancers due to too much ultraviolet exposure (sun). These lesions can mimic normal glandular growths and rashes, so a skin exam by a trained provider is imperative. Basically skin cancers will continue to grow unless treated. Lesions of concern are those that don’t heal, bleed easily and are changing color. It is very unusual for a skin cancer to fall off and disappear.
Treatments Available
While most skin cancers need to be treated surgically, there are now other treatments for early skin cancers that involve Superficial X-Ray Therapy, topical creams and sometimes light and lasers. At Pennoyer Dermatology, we strive to use the latest technologies and innovations to treat skin cancers or pre-cancers in their earliest stage, thus avoiding the need for more surgery. Pennoyer MD is the first and only medical practice in Connecticut to offer Superficial X-Ray Therapy (Branchytherapy), a painless, non-surgical treatment that is gentle, and only goes skin deep. There is no cutting or needless, and it is highly effective, just like surgery, at treating your skin cancer. Each treatment takes around 5-minutes, and cosmetic results are usually very good, as there is no surgery scar. LEARN MORE
