Winter Skincare Tips You Need to Know Now

Pennoyer MD Skin Science is solely based on cutting edge ingredients that have been scientifically proven to be effective and safe.

Winter weather has arrived, and with it comes dry air which can lead to dry, dull, dehydrated skin.

I recommend revisiting your skincare routine in the winter, especially as those dead skin cells can build up and cause skin to look dull. Getting rid of that dead layer will also help your products to better penetrate the skin. (If you have sensitive skin, be sure to use a gentle scrub.)

Start with exfoliation. The Skin Science Glycolic 20% Refining Cream uses glycolic and hydroxy acids to exfoliate the outer layer of dead skin cells on the surface of skin, improving skin texture and tone.

Dry heat can wreak havoc on the skin. Humidifiers are a great way to keep the air moist, and it is also important to hydrate from the inside out by drinking plenty of water.

You may find that moisturizing products you use in other months just don’t do the trick.

Look for products with moisture-rich hydration like our Supercharged Moisturizing Cream For Heels + Elbows, which can be even be used with socks overnight to boost the results.

For the face, a product like the Advanced Ceramide Complex Cream is an intense moisturizer containing a Ceramide complex, as well as cholesterol. It also contains niacinamide for therapeutic benefits and Vitamin B3 to improve texture, redness, and pigment.

It’s not just the products you use, but how you use them that can also make a difference. I always recommend applying your moisturizer in the shower or within three minutes after you step out to lock it into wet skin. And if you apply your moisturizer with the bathroom door closed, you retain even more humidity so you can pull more moisture into your skin.

We also see that people with oily skin avoid moisturizing for fear that it will lead to breakouts. But remember that many of these same people are using very drying acne fighting medications, and dryness can actually trigger inflammation. The best thing to do is to find a lighter weight formula that is targeted to this skin type.

Just because we are in the midst of the winter doldrums, doesn’t mean our skin has to be, too.
